Whispers & Fury – 153x28cm

Whispers and Fury’ emerges from my ongoing exploration of the profound relationship between human perception and natural forces. This immersive seascape begins from a central point and unfolds outward, creating a dynamic panorama that challenges traditional boundaries between viewer and environment. Drawing from years of photographic practice and research into contemporary imaging techniques, I’ve developed a method that captures both the physical presence and emotional resonance of our oceanic environment. The work invites viewers to experience the dual nature of water – its meditative whispers and its raw, untamed fury – reflecting our complex relationship with natural forces in an era of environmental change. The piece deliberately blurs the line between documentation and experience. Starting from an ‘origin point,’ the composition radiates outward, wrapping around the viewer in a way that dissolves the traditional distance between observer and subject. Brooding skies merge with churning waters in a carefully orchestrated visual journey that speaks to themes of impermanence, power, and human vulnerability in the face of natural forces. This work continues my investigation into how contemporary photographic practices can create new forms of environmental engagement. By pushing beyond traditional representational boundaries, ‘Whispers and Fury’ seeks to create an encounter where viewers become active participants rather than passive observers, experiencing a sense of disorientation similar to what one feels in the natural environment. The technique employed here builds upon my research into memory, reality, and perception – themes I’ve explored throughout my career as both an artist and academic. Through this work, I aim to contribute to the ongoing dialogue about our relationship with water as both a life-giving force and a powerful reminder of nature’s untamed essence
