Rock My World (Collins Beach) – 105x125cm

As a diver, I experience the ocean from above and below. It holds enigmatic wonders. Its vastness is majestic and humbling. Its transparency and fluidity allow for connections to a world we don’t usually inhabit. When I spend time in and around the ocean, I experience an immensely freeing feeling. The water-based nature of acrylic paint lends itself to this subject matter. I often begin with a magenta foundation to complement the teal waters and green bushy vegetation. Then painting many watery layers of paint and medium, I build transparency and depth into my ocean paintings. I seek to create an emotional response of contemplation and joy, while tapping into a collective Australian psyche that is drawn to the natural beauty of our island state. I aim to create a sense of presence and allow viewers space in which to freely roam.
