Seeds and pods are an ongoing fascination of mine. Symbolic of fertility and power, I see them as nascent with life and all its mysteries.
They in themselves are time capsules, holding Australia’s ancient ecological legacy. From ‘recalcitrant’ to ‘fire-followers,’ they vary in diversity, longevity, and abundance. Australia’s seeds range from nearly indestructible to impossibly fragile. Some are massive, spiked, or smooth-coated, while others are as light as dust. Some awaken with warmth and rain; others wait for fire. They may travel vast distances or remain close to home, lasting mere days or outliving generations.
